<<Le Lexington >> (The Lexington)
Inspired by the Bloomingdale's NY Flagship store at 59th & Lexington and the 1886 opening of Bloomingdale's buying office in Paris. Layers of Burnt Bloomingdale's tissue are the foundation of this incredible cocktail skirt. The offset halter top is constructed from Bloomingdale's iconic brown bags that have been polished, waxed and buffed to a perfect shine. Pheasant feathers finish off the bustier and a simple antique broach keeps everything nestled tight around the neck.

<<Reine des près frais>> (Fresh Meadows, Queens)
Inspired by the 1949 opening of Bloomingdale's first branch store in Fresh Meadows, Queens. Creating a perfect form with graceful lines its construction is simple and clean. A polished paper bustier trimmed out in leather with a stunning peacock herl ruff tops off a simple yet beautiful tissue paper skirt.

<<Millenia>> (Millenia)
Inspired by the grand opening of Bloomingdale's at The Mall at Millenia on October 18, 2002 and iconic brown bags designed by Massimo Vignelli in 1973. Creating a perfect form with graceful lines, its construction is simple and clean. Bloomingdales iconic brown paper bags decorated with metallic color adorn this leaf inspired gown which celebrates the female silhouette at its finest.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born and raised outside Minneapolis, artist Ben Van Beusekom creates art with no limits in response to his own personal feelings and experiences. His studio is his place of freedom, allowing Van Beusekom’s thoughts to wander and see where his next journey takes him. His works of art include sculpture, paintings and fashion.

The first thing observers notice about his art is that it evokes a senseof fantasy. Van Beusekom tells stories of utter beauty using what most consider dreadful and discarded.

With a focus on color and texture, he constructs wall art, sculptures and masks using only the finest gemstones, beads, Swarovski crystals, sequins, and fabrics. Each is personally applied one crystal, stone and bead at a time. For Van Beusekom, and the results are elegant, unusual, and stunning.

To commemorate their 150th anniversary, Van Beusekom was commissionedby Bloomingdale’s to create a couture traveling exhibition using their iconic “Big Brown Bag” shopping bags. He was also selected by The Forbes Company/Taubman Centers, Inc., to create a 15-foot statue adorned with Swarovski crystals to commemorate the15-year anniversary of The Mall at Millenia. In 2017, his couture fashions debuted on the runway for L’Oréal Professional’s fashion show in New York City. In 2020, he was approached by the Global Peace Film Festival to debut Bombshell: Masquerading Warfare – a collection of elegantly bejeweled gas masks that evoke a sense of fantasy in a time of pandemic chaos. His work can be found in galleries and boutiques around the country. He draws inspiration from the works of Alexander McQueen and currently resides in Orlando.
